GL events - Change Beyond the Games

The Brief

Alongside our main brief for ‘Race to the Games’, GL tasked us with producing a sister film to communicate the breadth of their social value campaign in Birmingham

Production

The challenge with this production was integrating the schedule for this within the schedule for the main GL film that we produced, which already demanded a large amount of time.

From the outset we worked closely with Rachel Baker and Steven Leek at GL to understand the key aspects of GL’s social value programme, it’s predicted impact across Birmingham, and the key stakeholders involved.

Digesting that information we were able to devise a production plan that didn’t compromise the main film, and if anything, made even more use of the time that our supply chain spent shooting in Birmingham.

We extended our collaboration with Crosscut Media, Luke Gale, and Matthew Kaltenborn who once again shot fantastic footage for this project.

It was an excellent experience to work alongside organisations such as The Canal & River Trust, Jericho Foundation, and Crewsaders, all whom do fantastic work across Birmingham and beyond.

Editing & Finishing

Working closely with GL, we edited the documentary in-house alongside the main film.

Again we produced Cinema DCP packages for special screenings of the documentary, as well as versions formatted for the web.

The final film was mixed by our chief sound operator Jason Nightall.

  • From Script to Screen

We were able to navigate the project from the research phase through to the cinema and world-wide release.

  • An edit full of finesse

Taking on the editing duties ourselves, we finely honed the edit in-situ with the client, which we hope honours the intentions of the shooting script.

  • A sophisticated colour palette

The film went through a thorough grading process resulting in a subtle, sophisticated look-and-feel.

  • Emotive Interviews

Utilising an interrotron, populised by documentarian Errol Morris, we were able to capture interviews full of feeling.

  • Beautifully Captured

Alongside our production partners, Crosscut Media, the cinematography of the film is something we’re particularly proud of.
